You know you’ve had “Break Up With Him” stuck in your head at least 100 times (and again right now since I mentioned it)! And I’m sure if you’ve listened to their debut album Meat & Candy, you’ve had many more of Old Dominion’s songs playing on a loop in your head. That’s because quite simply, these songs are fun to listen to, fun to sing and especially fun to hear live!
We started the night with a fun set from independent artist Steve Moakler! You may know his songs “Love Drunk” and “Suitcase” among a few others from his self-titled EP that was released earlier this year. In the middle of his set, Moakler took it down a notch and covered John Waite’s “Missing You” and a song that he wrote for hometown boy, Dierks Bentley, “Riser“. This is definitely an artist to look out for, and I hope he makes his way back to the desert very soon. And it also helps that he’s pretty easy on the eyes!
Sprinkled in between familiar tracks, we also got a taste of what’s to come in the future from Old Dominion in the form of new tracks, “Not Everything’s About You”, “Be With Me” and “So You Go“. They’re currently recording their second album and based on the new songs we got to hear, it’ll be just as good, if not, better than Meat & Candy! And if that wasn’t enough, the band took turns singing hit songs that they wrote for other artists! We got to hear “I Met A Girl“, “Save It For A Rainy Day”, “Make You Miss Me“, “A Guy Walks Into A Bar” and an edgier version of “Chainsaw.” It was pretty cool hearing other members of the band singing when typically, the lead singer is the front runner and in the spotlight and even cooler seeing the emotions that they felt while singing those songs.
They closed the show with their current single, “Song For Another Time” but the crowd couldn’t get enough! So after only a few moments, the band was back on stage for two additional songs. It’s safe to say that no one in the room wanted it to end.
